Our planet is the craziest, most precious thing, and the fact that life exists here is so far beyond the realm of probable. It was such a precarious thing way back, 4.5 billion years ago, a handful of amino acids at the bottom of a new ocean managed to form into nucleic acids. And then those nucleic acids somehow created bacteria and archaea which are still around today. The only reason we can respire is that a smaller cell got ‘eaten’ by a bigger one and somehow didn’t get digested, creating a proto-mitochondria. Imagine throughout evolutionary history, there was that first worm that burrowed, that first trilobite that developed eyes, all leading up to us and beyond. The creation of life on this Earth was so improbable and yet here we are, killing each other over someone else’s chemical reactions in their brain. And we’re in turn killing a planet that gave us life beyond the most extreme odds.
“If more girls wanted to be scientists, there would be more female scientists”
*takes a deep breath* WE LIVE IN A SOCIETY THAT ACTIVELY DISCOURAGES FEMALE INTELLIGENCE BY PAINTING IT AS A NON FEMININE TRAIT AND SETS UP MALES TO BE IN POSITIONS OF ACADEMIC SUPERIORITY DESPITE THERE BEING NO CORRELATION BETWEEN GENDER AND ACADEMIC ABILITY thank you for your time
We have to work twice as hard to get decent jobs and research fellowships or even to just get recognised for any work of note. No wonder there are fewer ‘female scientists’ we’ve given up trying to prove that we’re just as cutting edge in the field as any male. It’s especially prevalent in the more physical fields such as geology, where there is literally the 'you won’t survive for a month out in the field’ mentality. Some of the best geologists have been women, and they’re only gaining recognition for it now.

I’ve just been going through all my old geology notes and doing some reading, and I actually can’t believe I’m going to go and study this incredible subject. I get to learn more about these huge mechanisms of our planet and how it’s worked for billions of years. I’m becoming a time traveller of epic proportions and I couldn’t be more excited about it.
if i catch you glancing at me more than twice i will automatically think you like me so please don’t look at me ever
